After due consultation and prayerful reflection, and in order to provide for the proper care of souls entrusted to him, Bishop Joseph E. Strickland is pleased to announce the following pastoral assignments and appointments for the Diocese of Tyler. All changes are effective Dec. 1, 2017.
Rev. George Elliott assigned as Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Nacogdoches. He will continue as Chaplain to St. Mary’s Campus Ministry at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Rev. Stephen Duyka assigned as Parochial Administrator pro tempore of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Atlanta. He will continue as Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart Parish in Atlanta.
Rev. Christopher Ruggles has submitted his resignation as Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Nacogdoches and Dean of the Southeast Deanery for health reasons.
Rev. Daniel Gonzalez has submitted his resignation as Pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Atlanta. Father Gonzales has been assigned to exercise priestly ministry for the Missionary Society of St. James in the Territorial Prelature of Sicuani in Peru.
The Diocese of Tyler Altar Server Mass will be held December 2, 10am at the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul in Tyler. An Appreciation Lunch will follow at Bishop T.K. Gorman Catholic School, hosted by the Knights of Columbus.
We need trained volunteers to bring the message of Jesus Christ to God’s people in our area prisons.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice & the Diocese of Tyler will offer the necessary training.

Bishop Strickland will discuss the founding and growth of the Diocese of Tyler on the occasion of its 30th year.
The East Texas Catholic Professional Network’s next event is on Thursday, November 30 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Willow Brook Country Club in Tyler. Catholic scientist, author, theologian, and convert Stacy Trasancos Ph.D., will deliver a talk entitled “Particles of Faith: Evangelizing through Modern Science.” All working Catholic professionals are invited join the East Texas Catholic Foundation and St. Philip Institute of Catechesis and Evangelization for this evening of networking, fellowship, and enrichment in the Catholic faith. Tickets are $35 per person. Attendees must register in advance here by November 28. A cocktail and networking hour will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner and the presentation at 7:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by Image Eye Care, located at 2756 S. Broadway in Tyler.
