My Dear Brothers and Sisters:
Blessed Advent greetings in Christ!
Each year, this holy season brings us a new opportunity to contemplate the face of God in the Christ Child. The joyful expectation of Advent leads us to the glory of Christmas, where we are again reminded of the God who loves us to the point of becoming a little child. This joyful expectation can again fill our hearts with hope. The type of hope that does not disappoint (Rom. 5:5) because for us as Christians, this hope is a person, the person of Jesus Christ. In him we find the God who is faithful, regardless of the joys and sorrows of our daily lived experience.
Since Pope Francis appointed me apostolic administrator in November, I have made two visits to the Diocese of Tyler and have met with the priests and Chancery staff. I am grateful for their ministry and service to you, the faithful. I also express my thanks for their support and willingness to assist me with these added responsibilities as I remain Bishop of the Diocese of Austin. I have appointed Fr. John Gomez as my delegate, and in consultation with me, he will support the clergy and faithful of Tyler in my name. He will assist me in ensuring the spiritual, administrative, and practical needs of the Diocese of Tyler are met efficiently and appropriately.
Beginning under the leadership of Bishop Charles Herzig, and continuing under Bishops Edmond Carmody, Alvaro Corrada, and Joseph Strickland, the Church of Tyler is and remains a joyful community of believers, united in love of God and neighbor, committed to evangelizing your communities through the witness of your lives. I know this good work will continue and as we joyfully expect the coming of Christ our hope this Advent, I ask you to join me in praying for our Holy Father that the Holy Spirit will guide him as he discerns the next bishop of the Diocese of Tyler.
Please be assured of my closeness and prayers for you, and I ask for your prayers that I may carry out my duties faithfully. As we approach the season of Christmas may the Lord Jesus bless you and your families with goodness and peace.

¡Feliz Adviento en Cristo!
Cada año, este tiempo santo nos brinda una nueva oportunidad de contemplar el rostro de Dios en el Niño Jesús. La alegre espera del Adviento nos conduce a la gloria de la Navidad, donde se nos recuerda de nuevo al Dios que nos ama hasta el punto de hacerse un niño pequeño. Esta alegre espera puede volver a llenar nuestros corazones de esperanza. El tipo de esperanza que no defrauda (Rom. 5, 5) porque para nosotros, como cristianos, esta esperanza es una persona, la persona de Jesucristo. En Él encontramos al Dios que es fiel, a pesar de las alegrías y las penas de nuestra experiencia cotidiana.
Desde que el Papa Francisco me nombró administrador apostólico en noviembre, he realizado dos visitas a la Diócesis de Tyler y me he reunido con los sacerdotes y el personal de la Cancillería. Les agradezco su ministerio y su servicio a ustedes, los fieles. Expreso también mi agradecimiento por su apoyo y disposición a ayudarme con estas responsabilidades añadidas mientras sigo siendo Obispo de la Diócesis de Austin. He designado al P. John Gomez como mi delegado, y en consulta conmigo, apoyará al clero y a los fieles de Tyler en mi nombre. Me ayudará a garantizar que las necesidades espirituales, administrativas y prácticas de la Diócesis de Tyler se satisfagan de manera eficiente y adecuada.
Comenzando bajo el liderazgo del Obispo Charles Herzig, y continuando bajo los Obispos Edmond Carmody, Alvaro Corrada y Joseph Strickland, la Iglesia de Tyler es y sigue siendo una alegre comunidad de creyentes, unidos en el amor a Dios y al prójimo, comprometidos a evangelizar sus comunidades a través del testimonio de sus vidas.
